The donation of used cars to "charities" has become a favorite way for Americans to dispose of unwanted vehicles. And why not? You can avoid headaches or sale junking the car, help a charitable cause and reduce your tax burden at the same time.

What happens to donate a car?

About half of our cars are sold to licensed dealers at wholesale auctions and are reused for transport. The other half are usually transported for auto recovery sites where all reusable car parts, batteries, tires and fluids are removed. Vehicles that can be recycled is crushed, ground and recycled steel.

Car Recycling conserves an enormous amount of steel from landfills - enough to build about 45 000 houses frame steel annually. The energy saving each year is enough to power about 18 million homes!

Habitat receives funding for any given vehicle, although a car sold at auction typically generates more revenue than is recycled. Every donation makes a difference and families that work with us are very grateful for your help.

What happens after my vehicle is picked up?

Your vehicle will be sold on behalf of Habitat through a national network of auctions and direct buyers.

After the vehicle has been sold, you will receive an acknowledgement letter providing your vehicle sale information.
